Rate My Look- Hell Froze Over

You may be thinking, "What's up with the title of her post?" I don't see anything major in her outfit. And you'd be right. But what you don't know is that I actually wore this outfit with a pair of real- that's right, REAL- Uggs. Not even my F'Uggs that I occasionally break out, but real, honest-to-goodness, authentic UGGS. And that, my friends is how you know that hell has frozen over. Why aren't the Uggs pictured? I changed into the sleeker boot for work and didn't have time to snap photos of both outfits, that's why. Some other time, I'll try to snag a picture, but let's be honest, you all know how I feel about Uggs, so it's not likely to happen anytime soon. The thing about Uggs, is that while I may not ever appreciate them for their aesthetic value, I certainly do appreciate them for their warmth and comfort. Shearling-lined boots are never a bad thing when you live somewhere that has single-digit temperature readings for several weeks in a row. 5 degrees Fahrenheit? I think I'll break out the Uggs, in spite of how they look, thank you very much. 

Rate My Look- Casual Friday

Not every day is all about being glamorous. Living back in cold New England, I've finally come to understand Uggs. And while I don't have an authentic pair myself, I am starting to come around in terms of understanding and appreciating what they do.

What Uggs (and F'Uggs) Do:
- They keep my feet warm and cozy.

What Uggs (and F'Uggs) Do NOT Do:
- They do not look nice.

It's a trade-off, for sure. They are completely unflattering and very clunky/sloppy looking, but on a cold, blustery day, there's no other shoe that I want to wear. Even more stylish boots are not as appealing when I know I don't have to be anywhere in particular.

Shoesday Tuesday- Oh the shame....

So the other night was a friend's birthday party. I got dressed for the event in one of my cute skirt/top combinations, threw on some heels, some accessories and headed out a little early, thinking I would run an errand or two before going to the party. Well, my mistake because apparently it was WINTER on this particular day and the second I stepped outside I practically froze in place. I hurried back inside, shivering and overreacting (which I frequently do). I abandoned the whole outfit and started over with a pair of tights- I know, I know, I've said before that once I'm liberated from tights and socks, I don't go back. Well, on this particular day, I just knew I was going to freeze my booty off if I didn't drastrically change my outfit. On top of the tights, I layered a pair of knee-high argyle socks, and (here's where the shame comes in) my F'Uggs. Normally I try to dress to the nines, especially when it's a special social event. I'm always in heels, or at least I try to be. And here I showed up to this event in ugly winter boots.

Every other girl (including my pregnant friend Shannon) showed up in super high heels. Oh, the shame. I was mortified, but I'll eventually get over it. If you look closely at the picture, you can even tell that I'm trying to stand on my tip-toes so that I'm  not dwarfed by the other girls around me. That huge gust of wind made me so cold that all I wanted to do was curl up in a blanket, so comfy, warm clothes was the best alternative (not to mention slightly more socially acceptable).

On another shoe-related note, Andrea, standing to my right is standing in such a way that she is really showing off her fabulous new Coach heels- the ones I mentioned in this post. Aren't they FIERCE? I know "fierce" is so over-used these days, but I have to say that these shoes totally warrant the use of it.

Rate My Look- Casual Sunday Afternoon

Today was another day for comfort- I threw on my most comfortable dress, a pair of warm leggings, my "f-Uggs" and some fun accessories- arm warmers, a belt, a cocktail ring and earrings. And I bothered to curl my hair, but it really was not cooperating. The time for a trim is apparently overdue. I went to Barnes & Noble where I picked up my reserved copy of "Couture Sewing Techniques" by Claire B. Shaeffer. I'm excited to read this book and I really hope it's not way over my head. I have decent sewing skills, but Ive always been fascinated by the whole idea of haute couture construction. Who doesn't love clothing that is custom-made, but couturiers take it to a whole other level. I'll be sure to share what I learn here, provided it's not too over my head.

Shoesday Tuesday- an unprecedented event!

Some might say that hell froze over, others that this day was inevitable, but the point is this: yesterday I bought a pair of faux Uggs for myself- I call them "fuggs." I could never understand the appeal of those ugly boots! I saw people wearing them not only on the streets, but in fashion magazines! It was horrifying to me. Everyone kept saying, "Uggs are the best- they're so comfortable and warm!" I agree that they may be both of those, but aren't they also really expensive? And if I'm going to spend that much on a pair of boots, shouldn't they be comfortable and warm AND at least look a little bit nice? Anyway, yesterday I was invited out to Hershey Park for the evening with some friends. As many of you know, PA got quite a bit of snow on Saturday, and I figured I would need a pair of warm boots for hiking around the park on a cold winter night. There was a pair of tan Ugg-looking boots on sale at the Gap for only $23.99. Trust me, I'd been to several other stores and considered lots of other options before finally succumbing to the inevitable. I did, however, do my best to cover them up when wearing them as you can see in this picture:

You can barely even tell I'm wearing them at all! Anyway, the point is, my feet were warm and dry all night long, so in the end I'm happy I got them. I'm not sure that I'll be incorporating them into my daily attire anytime soon, but for all of you Ugg enthusiasts out there, I had to come clean.
