More Tapas Blogging via Stumble Upon

I was using Stumble Upon the other day and realized there were quite a few discoveries that I wanted to share with you.

First was this article about a new collection of bridal gowns by Alfred Angelo, all inspired by Disney princesses. While I can admit that some of these gowns are actually really pretty, I can't admit I would never snicker if a bride wanted to purchase one because it was Disney-princess-inspired. Much like buying a replica of Kate Middleton's gown for the sole reason that you want to feel like a princess as opposed to because you truly love the gown, the idea of buying a gown to feel like a fairy-tale princess just seems a bit odd to me. What are your thoughts?

Normally, I wouldn't find myself clicking the "like" button on a post like this one, but something about it just appealed to me. It is definitely very "girly," but in a nostalgic way or something. I can't put my finger on it, but I know I like it.

And then there was this discovery- a brief article and video describing a dress that actually purifies the air. It seems as though it's actually a laundering technique, but if all the clothes we wash could afterwards act as air purifiers, I think that would be pretty amazing.

Styling hair has never been my forte. I tend to fall into a hair rut over and over again, and it's broken up only by a new hair cut. Even then, I still fall back on my old standbys over and over. That's why I was so excited to stumble upon Hair Romance's 30 Day of Twist & Pin Hairstyles. So many of these looks are so effortlessly chic looking. I know I will be trying some of them when I find myself in a hair rut.

This comical illustration explains the process of bra shopping with amazing clarity and a few expletives. Regardless, it's funny because it's true.

When I was little, I loved playing with dolls- I had a doll house that I loved to furnish, but I especially loved to dress my dolls. I made clothes for them using scraps of fabric. I also loved playing with paper dolls. When I discovered this adorable website, I found myself feeling nostalgic. Twenty minutes later, I realized I'd been using the 21st century version of paper dolls and loving every second of it!

Finally, I really ought to save this link for a Shoesday Tuesday feature, but I can't wait that long. Check out the shoes featured on the High Heel Shoe Museum. Amazing!

The great and terrible thing about Stumble Upon is that you can lose yourself for hours stumbling around the internet. Good for a rainy day, I suppose.

Shoesday Tuesday- Tapas Blogging

As much as I love my weekly Shoesday Tuesday, I know I'm not the only one out there creating fabulous blog posts about shoes. Today I want to share some other shoe-related sites from around the interwebs:

Styleite says there are 10 Shoe Vocabulary Words You Should Know and Probably Don't

Sea of Shoes is exactly that and Jane makes sure they are always beautifully photographed. Also, the vintage pieces that girl finds is unreal.

Manolo's Shoe Blog cracks me up every time. Humor AND shoes? I'm swooning!

The Shoe Goddess has a section of her site known as "In Her Shoes" with fabulous interviews with various shoe designers and other shoe-industry people. Trust me, it's a good read.

While Shoe Blog may not have a very interesting blog title, there isn't a lack of interesting and entertaining posts like this one calling out flatforms for the ugly shoes they are, or this post where I learned that there actually are Crocs out there that aren't hideous. Who knew?

While there are likely an infinite number of fantastic shoe-related blogs and sites out there on the interwebs, the above links are a few that I personally enjoy visiting. What about you? Do you have  favorite shoe blog or site? Share it in your tweet this week and don't forget the hashtag- #ShoesdayTuesday

Have a great day, everyone!

Tapas Blogging

Enjoy these little "bites" of fashion and style info:

@gregorvios tweeted a video as part of S...tNB's #ShoesdayTuesday tradition. Check it out here- it's fun!

Speaking of Shoesday Tuesday, I am considering featuring these super fabulous sandals this week. Or maybe just fabulous sandals in general. Considering I need to find some for work and soon, I really ought to dedicate some time to it- for the blog AND for my closet.

With spring and summer just around the corner (we hope), it's time to break out those cute warm-weather pieces that have been hanging out in the back of your closet for the last six months. And if you didn't jump on the romper bandwagon last summer, have no fear- they're back this season and cuter than ever.

If you're curious as to what else will be out there this season, check out fashionising.com's spring 2011 trend predictions. They tend to be spot on. The ones I'm looking forward to are lace clothing and 60's ladylike looks. I'm not so excited about sheer maxi dresses and crop tops.

This article on fashionista.com got me thinking, because- generally speaking- I've always really loved Target and thought they had some pretty great bags. What are your thoughts after reading? Leave a comment!

If you're anything like me, you are still faithfully watching Glee every week, despite thinking it might be time for them to jump the shark (and no, I'm not the first person to say that about this show). However, I have to admit, ever since Santana and Brittany have been kicked off the Cheerios, I've been enjoying their "street clothes" costumes.Which is why I was so happy to find Fashion of Glee, a site dedicated to finding the cool clothes the characters sport each and every week. It's great- you can browse by episode, character, even by designer and price! I love it!

I got a good laugh watching this video about the hazardous job of runway walking. I also stumbled upon this hilarious video involving a model, an ill-placed pirouette and a pool. Yes, a pool. Anyway, these videos both reminded me of one of my all time favorite episodes of Sex and the City. You know the one. Click here for that fabulous cringe-worthy moment of Carrie's.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Tapas Blogging

The Fug Girls have discovered a fashion rule that, unlike most other fashion rules, should not be broken.

I am supremely disappointed in Glamour magazine for posting this article about what a great idea it is to wear high-waisted, pleated pants. The outfit picture shown to demostrate the virtues of this fashion horror is not helping matters. Agree? Disagree? Leave a comment- you know I love them (comments, that is. Not pleated high-waisted pants).

Generally speaking, when it comes to fashion, I like my men to look like men. Not like little boys. Or women. Or clowns. Thank you Burberry, Costume National, DSquared2,  and Hermes for NYFW Spring 2011 collections that are designed for men. Balenciaga, Alexis Mabille, and especially Commes de Garcon, you're on notice.

For those of you looking for more environmentally and ethically sound clothing choices, Eco Fashion World is your resource. With a list of eco-friendly online stores, and fashion brands, as well as news, books and education, open jobs in the industry and even a breakdown of the various types of eco-friendly fashion choices you can make. Whether you prefer vegan, vintage, fair trade, or all of the above and then some, this guide can help you find what you're looking for. (Although, I didn't see Fair Indigo in their list of stores, so I may have to email them about that...)

In corporate America, it isn't easy for women to look both professional and feminine. Fortunately for us, Lucky Magazine has put together a fabulous slideshow entitled "15 Feminine Pieces to Instantly Update your Work Wardrobe."

Continuing with the magazine theme, I was fascinated by the "Top 10 Fall Beauty Trends" by Allure. My faves? #1- Red Lips and #5- Rough Waves.

Speaking of beauty tricks, I am loving this video by our favorite make-up artist Kandee Johnson. Whether you are getting ready for a school picture day (it's that time of year again!), or any other type of photo- passport, family portrait, even your drivers license or workplace ID, this make-up technique will do the trick.

While I've always loved ModCloth's pieces for summer, every now and then, there's an amazing something or other that is just perfect for the cooler months of the year. Like this dress, these boots and this coat. In fact, I see no reason not to buy all three and wear them all together!

Happy Thursday, everyone!
