Last night, while having a fabulous dinner out with BFF Beth, we got to talking about Christian Siriano- our all-time-favorite Project Runway contestant. Of course, it hardly occurred to me that fashion week is in full swing and I could hop online any day now to view his most recent collection.
The thing about Christian Siriano is that he seems to have ideas and creativity literally gushing out of him. I get the impression he could create over-the-top looks till the cows come home and never tire of the process or the product. This most recent collection, however, while still featuring a handful of "trademark Siriano," with ruffles and grand glamour galore, also had a dark, understated side. Critics including the New York Times, the Huffington Post and Style.com have all given him positive reviews, but everyone is a bit surprised by this twist. I think it's incredibly shrewd of him to switch things up the way he did Even though some of us out there may appreciate his early avant garde work, it would be silly of Siriano not to at least try for variety, even if only a little. In the fashion industry, being one-note can be the greatest crime. Fortunately for us, Siriano appears well on his way toward fashion icon-status as he continually surprises and amazes everyone. And most importantly, as he makes clothes we all want to wear.
For your viewing pleasure, here is Christian Siriano's Fall 2011 collection:
And if you're interested in seeing any other designers work, check out the official site for a complete list of shows and runway photos. Leave a comment if you want to tell me what you think of Christian Siriano's collection, or anyone else's for that matter. I admit, I'm a few days behind in checking them out, but I'll catch up soon and you can bet you'll see some of my favorite looks here in a day or two. Happy Fashion Week!
