Golden Girls at the Golden Globes?

Oh, I'm sorry- after seeing all the shoulder-padded, long/poofy-sleeved dresses on the red carpet, I started to think I was seeing a bizarre episode of the Golden Girls. For the record, these are NOT trends I enjoy. I thought the shoulder-emphasis was starting to head out of the trend spotlight, not gain momentum. Some examples:

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

Julianne Moore in Lanvin

Jane Fonda in Georges Hobeika

Angelina Jolie in Versace

Leighton Meester in Burbery Prorsum

While long sleeves and strong shoulders were obviously a trend, the asymmetrical shoulder/neckline was obviously still going strong:

Amber Riley in Oliver Tolentino

Amy Adams in Marchesa

Christina Hendricks in Romona Keveza

Jane Krakowski in Badgley Mischka

Despite the popularity of the sleeved and one-shouldered gowns, the reining trend by far had more to do with hue than cut. Peach-y nude dresses from simple sheaths to grand couture ruled the red carpet this season:

Carrie Underwood in Badgley Mischka

Scarlet Johansson in Elie Saab

Diana Agron in J. Mendel

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein (P.S. Emma Stone is blonde now? When did that happen?)

Nicole Kidman in Prada

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

Of course, I don't always care about the trends when it comes to picking the "Best" and "Worst" dressed of the evening. Here are my picks this time around:

BEST: It's a three-way tie for me.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhuillier

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka

WORST: There were some pretty horrific choices made this time around, but these four were the worst of the worst by far.

Gabourey Sidibe in Marc Bouwer

Halle Berry in Nina Ricci

Michelle Williams in Valentino

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood
